Nurse

There is no separate NURSE role today. Create nurses as Practitioner or Receptionist depending on what they must do.

Who this is for

Nurses, vaccination staff, optometry assistants and clinical assistants.

What you can access

If the nurse must record vitals or vaccinations, assign PRACTITIONER because vitals.write and immunization.write are in that bundle. This also grants broad clinical access, so use it only for trained clinical staff.

Give such a practitioner the designation Nurse: they then keep the clinical bundle but are never listed on the public website or the online booking page (only patient-facing clinician designations are listed; see Practitioner).

If the nurse only helps front desk, queue, report upload or consent capture, assign RECEPTIONIST. Receptionist gets immunization.read only, not vaccine write. If the person only needs a login, STAFF currently has only settings.read.

Daily workflows

1. Choose the right role

  1. List the nurse's tasks: vitals, vaccine entry, consent, queue help, report upload or billing.
  2. If they must enter vitals or vaccine doses, choose Practitioner. Result: Vitals and Vaccination are available.
  3. If they only prepare patients and upload reports, choose Receptionist. Result: Queue, registration, vault upload and consent capture are available.
  4. Review access after one week. Tip: assign Practitioner because permissions are needed, not because the job title says nurse.

2. Prepare a patient as Practitioner

  1. Open Queue (/app/queue) or the appointment list and identify the patient.
  2. Open the visit and click Start visit.
  3. In Vitals, enter readings and click Save vitals. Result: the doctor sees latest vitals in the encounter.
  4. Add allergies only if clinic policy allows it.

3. Record vaccination as Practitioner

  1. Open Vaccination in the visit workspace.
  2. Click Record dose.
  3. Fill Dose, Date given, Batch no., Manufacturer, Site, Route and Given.
  4. Click Save dose. Result: the vaccination card updates and warnings show if timing is unusual.

4. Assist as Receptionist

  1. In Queue, click Issue token for an arrived patient.
  2. Upload outside reports in the patient vault with Upload.
  3. Use Record consent when asked. Result: the clinical team sees the file or consent without clinical-write access.

First-day checklist

  1. Decide Practitioner vs Receptionist before creating the login.
  2. If Practitioner, practise saving vitals and recording a sample vaccine dose.
  3. If Receptionist, practise issuing a token and uploading a report.
  4. Confirm who may sign or amend clinical documents.
  5. Never share another staff member's login.
